Chuckie Cherry is a professional influencer and artist from the midwest with the eyes and ears of a true visionary. Her sense of keen artistry, visuals and world building allow her to dive into anything with full potential and succeed. First getting her start on social media creating eye-catching reels and dance videos, she now finds herself in a unique position. Upon first look, she might just be another 'white woman - influencer turned artist' story with no true vision and goal. However, once I got to speaking with her, I discovered something truly more endearing:
'There are many different creative avenues you could choose to indulge yourself in, why music?'
'I feel particularly drawn to music due to the simple fact, it was all I had growing up to get me through the toughest times possible.'
She goes on:
'Even if my music doesn't connect with the masses, it could connect with someone who needs it.'
'So, how do you find inspiration to create while being everyone's favorite niche artist?'
'Music really is timeless in the fact, that you can find a song, or instrumental etc, at any moment in your life, and it just moves you in some type of way; I think that is particularly special. But, when it comes to creating music, I just want to feel good about what i'm making and let it connect with whoever it is meant to.'
The bigger question everyone seems to be asking is: Why Chuckie Cherry? In the midst of all this creation explosion - we have to ask, what is it that makes her so different from other artists and creatives?
'What makes you so special in this already highly saturated industry and market of creatives?'
'For one, no one will ever work harder than me. Cliché as that sounds, its a guarantee. I learn and catch on extremely quickly, I can adapt to anything, super reliable, God, I sound so full of myself...'
She chuckles then continues on:
'...I am on a very particular mission of my own. If companies, brands and sponsors want to sign on and stand by me as I move through the industry as 'Chuckie Cherry' - then that's up to them and that would be great! However, I am who I am and that tends to scare a lot of brands away. I will be remembered either way with or without them. And that's where I'll leave it.'
In the very politically correct climate that we tend to find ourselves in, it is important now more than ever to support others who support your own political goals and intentions. We have seen artists stay A-political but that usually causes an uproar when buttons are pressed.
'Are you comfortable sharing your politics with potentially the entire world? If so, why?'
'My husband would love me to say no due to the outrage in this country - but that's just not who I am. I don't consider myself dem or rep. But, I do consider myself an extremely progressive socialist if anything at all.'
Progressive Socialism is a political approach that blends socialist economic ideas with progressivism.
'What does that mean in your words?'
'Basically, I just want everyone to be equal. If we can start focusing on the source of these issues maybe we can find progress. Nothing should ever be based on race, creed, religion, sexual orientation etc. NOTHING! Humans deserve basic human rights, integrity and liberty. Don't even get me started on climate change.'
While we discussed a few more things about climate change - yes, I got her started. We then circled back to music:
'What do you want others to take away from your music?'
'I just want my music to find whoever it is meant to, and connect with whoever it is meant to. I think if it is meant to be heard by the masses, it will happen. Your favorite song isn't my favorite song and that's okay! That's the beauty about music and creating art. It's different for everyone and means different things to different people. For me, this is my therapy, my confessionals, a world I have playfully built based around my life. If you want a peak, then listen, and then, take what you want!'
What an amazingly beautiful ending to a great interview with Chuck. Some say she is TOO inspirational. Now running her own graphic fashion business on top of making music, after looking her in her eyes as she passionately explains her 'Why', I knew she was unlike any artist I had met before.
Before she exited the room she had one more thing left to say to ask us:
'How do you want to be remembered?'
